What forms can discrimination take?

It is a sad fact that many workers in Indiana experience unfair treatment in their workplace every day. For some it arises from a dispute with colleagues or superiors over matters such as safety violations or company misconduct. For others it is a much more personal attack, referring to any number of other characteristics that have no bearing on their job.

Discrimination comes in many forms, from aggressive or derogatory comments to pay inequality and even physical abuse. Workers can be singled out for their race, age, religion, origin, disability, sexual preference or even gender identity. However, discrimination for any of these reasons is illegal and should not be tolerated.

If you are subjected to this kind of treatment, you should report it as soon as possible. It may seem daunting, but it could make a huge difference. Not only does it allow you to address the issue and pursue a more congenial working environment, but it also can help to prevent future employees suffering the same treatment.

No one should have to tolerate discrimination at work, or anywhere else for that matter. According to the Indiana Civil Rights Commission, you have the right to pursue employment without being singled out for any of the above reasons. An attorney may be able to help you establish whether you have been targeted by discrimination and advise you on the steps you can take to overcome it.
