No matter who you are or in which part of the United States you reside, you deserve to be treated with respect and consideration in your place of work. No one can achieve their best when faced with harassment, unpleasant comments and a generally hostile work environment. Sadly, it is something that many workers in Indiana face every day. On top of all that, it can even lead to them facing disciplinary action for reduced performance as they fight to stay strong in the face of adversity.
Others are dismissed altogether, with false reasons given to explain the decision. In Indiana, a 65-year-old man is claiming that he was forced into retirement by the university of which he was Chancellor as the result of discrimination over his age and his gender. Although the university is said to have employment rules in place that mandate retirement at 65, it has been suggested that numerous exceptions had previously been made to the rule.
Furthermore, when the 65-year-old was dismissed, his successor was allegedly aged 64 and continued to be employed in the position three years later. Unfortunately, the claims of discrimination were dismissed by the court. However, others deem the targeted hostility of the situation to be more than clear.
Discrimination is an awful and ugly thing and it should not be tolerated anywhere in life. The workplace is no exception, so if you feel you are being mistreated at work, you may benefit from the counsel of an attorney. He or she can advise you on how to proceed and may be able to help you with your case.
